Wilderness is situated about 50km from Knysna on the N2, about forty minutes pleasant drive through the what is often referred to as the Garden Route's "Lake District". Golden stretches of beach are washed by the rolling waves of the Indian Ocean. Inland only a few kilometers from the sea, the Outeniqua Mountains form an impressive backdrop.
On the way you pass through the village of Sedgefield on the banks of Swartvlei estuary The Estuary teams with aquatic bird life and the beach at the mouth is ideal for a long lazy walk.
At Wilderness you can also enjoy a long hike along the golden beach or swim in the sea or the lagoon in the warmer months, or just laze in the warm sunshine. In the afternoon take a quiet walk along the boardwalk which meanders through the reeds of the Wilderness Lagoon. The beaches are popular for swimming and surfing.
Two spectacular view sites are; Map of Africa situated above Wilderness and Dolphins Point above the mouth of the Kaaimans river next to the N2
