Oudtshoorn is a very pleasant scenic 1½ hour (90km) drive from Knysna through Sedgefield, Wilderness and George. Crossing the Oteniqua Mountains you enter the Klein Karoo with a dramatic change to a rugged country-side. From the moment you enter this lovely region, you will be struck by the vastness of the country.
If you hope to see ostriches roaming the countryside you won't be disappointed. However if you want a close-up view and a very informative tour, visit Safari Ostrich Show Farm.
The Cango Caves are about 30 km north of Oudtshoorn. Tour groups through the caves leave at regular intervals. This is truly a marvel of nature. There is also a very nice resturant at the information center.
On the outskirts of Oudtshoorn on the way to the caves is the Cango Wildlife Ranch, which is famous for its cheetah conservation efforts. See cheetahs, crocs, snakes and many other animals at close range. A little further on is Buffelsdrift Game Lodge with luxury accomodation, restaurant and game drives. A bushveld experience in the heart of the Klein Karoo
