It's a pleasant drive to Mosselbay on the N2 and takes just over an hour (100km) passing through Sedgefield, Wilderness, and bypassing George. Along the way you can make pleasant detours to Victoria Bay, Herolds Bay and Great Brak River.
The town of Mossel Bay is of great historical interest. It is perched on a hill overlooking the little harbour and the bay which on some days is azure blue. The harbour is a home the local fishing industry as well as vessels used to service the Mossgas rigs.
A great attraction is the exact replica of Bartolomeu Dias' caravel which was built to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his landing in Mossel Bay. This museum forms part of a complex which includes the Culture Museum, the Granary, the Shell Museum and the famous Post Office Tree, used by sailors to post letters collected by passing ships.
The town has many magnificent buildings of local stone which extol the stone masons craft.
On your return to Knysna catch the afternoon game drive at Botlierskop Game Farm, only a few kilometres from the Little Brak River turnoff on the N2. (See Eco & Nature)
