Knysna (See Map) has so much to offer the visitor: Wonderful shops, plenty of places to eat, great nightlife, exciting outdoor activities, marvellous beaches close by and a beautiful lagoon which offers some of the best water activities in South Africa.
The Knysna Heads (6km from the centre of town) gives you a spectacular "seagulls" view of the lagoon and the mighty Indian Ocean. On the way to the Heads keep a look out for the birdlife on the edge of the lagoon.
The ever popular lagoon with it's various activities has its own page, see Knysna Lagoon.
The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe is a unique attraction with regular trips to George on a train pulled by a LIVE STEAM ENGINE. Not many of them left in the world!
Shops abound in Knysna and at the Waterfront - gifts, food, furniture, curios. Knysna is famous for its indigenous timber furniture available at shops like Kluyts, Fechters and Knysna Forest Furniture in Woodmill Lane. For something different in wood take a short drive to Timber Village in Welbedacht Lane.
Knysna is the ideal base to enjoy the rest of the Garden Route have a look at the various daytrips to Plettenberg Bay, Wilderness, Tsitsikamma National Park, Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn.
